How it works
NIST lists the acre as 43,560 ft² (4,046.856 422 4 m² on the international foot, which applies from 2023).
Acres = square feet ÷ 43,560. Square feet = acres × 43,560. Square yards = acres × 4,840. Square meters = acres × 4,046.8564224.
Worked example
10,000 sq ft ÷ 43,560 = 0.2296 acres, which is 1,111 sq yd or 929 m².
| Lot | Sq ft | Acres |
|---|---|---|
| 50 × 100 ft | 5,000 | 0.1148 |
| 100 × 100 ft | 10,000 | 0.2296 |
| 200 × 200 ft | 40,000 | 0.9183 |
| 208.71 × 208.71 ft | 43,560 | 1.0000 |
Tips and common mistakes
- A lot's legal area comes from its deed or survey, not from tape measurements.
- You can enter feet or metres; the calculator converts.
